The University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test is a standardized commercially available kit used for testing the sense of smell. It has become the standard in the field due to it's reliability and practicality - a patient can complete the test in a waiting room in less than five minutes. The test consists of a booklet with 40 samples, which are broken with a pencil and then sniffed by the patient. The patient then chooses from a multiple choice of 4 different responses. The patient is then given an absolute score and a relative score based on their age and gender.
