Kirk was placed into this escape pod and launched towards Delta Vega in the Vulcan system from the USS Enterprise after the destruction of Vulcan and an argument with acting captain Spock that ended in a Vulcan nerve pinch. The pod successfully landed on the planet before Kirk regained consciousness.
