Our Hero is certain she knows who committed the crime. Unfortunately, she doesn't have much evidence, so she maneuvers the criminal into panicking in a way that's likely to be self-incriminating. Some variants include: This trope is particularly common in armchair detective fiction, where the hero often has only determined the culprit through a long chain of interlocking deductions and subtle observations which would never hold up in court.
