Munemori was a bushi and mercenary of the Mantis Clan. He took Chousen, the unused Ancestral Armor of the Gusai family, and used it in battle against enemies of the Crane Clan, the Scorpion at that time. When Munemori wore the armor into combat he was faster and more ruthless than before, and he used to challenge high-ranking Scorpion officers for personal combat. The armor was infused with a piece of the spirit of Gusai himself, founder of the Gusai family. Munemori died under mysterious circumstances several years later.
