In the French Quarter of New Orleans, a black cat named Fabrette is born with a birthmark that makes her resemble a striped skunk. She has trouble attracting any male cats because they all take her to be a real skunk and run away. Meanwhile, Pepé Le Pew arrives in New Orleans as a stowaway on a ship, also looking for a mate, but becomes puzzled when humans run away from him, exclaiming "pew!". When Fabrette meets Pepé, she is attracted to him and tries to have a relationship but cannot stand his stench. She tries to first hold her breath, and then spray him with perfume, but to no avail. After encountering more humans running away from him exclaiming "pew!", he looks up the word in the dictionary.
