The Republic of Havana was founded on the 16th of November 1798, following the Cuban Revolution. It was founded by Nicolás Morales, a free negro, who was disgruntled by the Spanish slavery laws, led the successful revolution against them between 1795 and 1798. He was also the person to draft the "laws by sheet", the laws that freed all men from oppression, and gave them all opportune chances in life. The republic was one of the first nations to ban slavery outright, and it gained a lot of notoriety in the USA by slave owners, with some diplomats from the south wanting a full invasion of the island.
