The Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil (UFSC) is a Brazilian university notable for its Institute of Oriental Studies (Instituto de Estudos Orientais). Although the university probably has many other programs, this article focuses on the Institute for Oriental Studies, the university's best known program. This is especially interesting because nobody is really sure why, of all the programs presumably at the university, the Institute for Oriental Studies has become so popular.
