The Celtic Scholar was an academic journal that specialized on Celtic history and archaeology. The spring 1915 issue contained an article about the results of a conference on Celtic-British literature after the Saxon invasions. Listed among the proceedings was a finding by Charles B. Hawken of a diary of a Christian hermit in the Welsh mountains who had recorded a vision of the Holy Grail in the year 717 or 719. Henry Jones, Sr. clipped out the article and kept it in his Grail Diary, and hoped to meet with Hawken once the war was over.
