The Galactic Alliance of Free Planets and the Second Galactic Empire or the Galactic Alliance-Fel Empire were unified by the Second Corellian Treaty, this stipulated that there would be peace throughout the Galaxy and that the Empire and Alliance would co-exist, one of the conditions of this treaty was that each world could vote to decide which political system they would be ruled by. The union came to an end in 49 ABY after the two factions once again declared war on one another.
