Jim Herbst is the former first in command of the military group Alliance Navy, having been ranked A-4, Fleet Admiral. He took the position following the resignation from command of Mazer Ludd in late 2005. He led the AN for the entire time since, with various subordinate commanders in that time, until December of 2008, when he stepped down over an in-group controversy. He re-entered the Alliance Navy as a Cadet, but later on recieved head of the entire group, due to Jason Backer leaving Second Life.
