John Evitts had a long career playing television parts from the 1960s to the 1990s appearing in series such as Z Cars, I, Claudius, Last of the Summer Wine and Agatha Christie's Poirot. In Coronation Street he appeared in two roles: a postal Delivery Man in July 1963 and then in November 1974 as Derek Whitely, a potential suitor for Bet Lynch who she had met in Majorca when she was stranded there after being given the push-off by holiday serial romancer Martin Barrett.
