Belmast was a city on Bajor. In the 2350s, during the Cardassian Occupation, Gul Ren Mekkar ordered the executions of hundreds of Bajorans following a strike and a riot in the city. Mekkar became known as the "Butcher of Belmast" for his actions. (DS9 novel: The Heart of the Warrior)
