The Chestnut-belted gnateater (Conopophaga aurita), is a species of gnateater in the Conopophagidae family. It is found in the Amazon Basin of northern Brazil, southern Colombia and eastern Peru and Ecuador; also the Guianan countries of Guyana, Suriname and eastern French Guiana. Its natural habitat is tropical moist lowland forests. It includes the taxa snethlageae and pallida of the south-eastern Amazon as subspecies. They are vocally and morphologically distinctive, and consequently sometimes considered a separate species, the Snethlage's gnateater (Conopophaga snethlageae, with subspecies pallida).
