Aman is the Directorate of Military Intelligence of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Aman is an abbreviatin of Agaf HaModiin (lit. "the Intelligence Section). The directorate was created in 1950, when the Intelligence Department was spun off from the IDF's General Staff. Aman is an independent directorate, and not part of the Ground Forces, Navy or the Israeli Air Force. The directorate is headed by a Major General (Heb. אלוף‎ Aluf).
