The Gate of Steel was the seventh and last of the Gates of Gondolin and was wrought by Maeglin alone. The gate was unlike the others because it had no wall, just two enormous round towers. The towers had seven stories that had many windows and tapered upward. On the top of the towers was a turret of steel. Between the towers there was a fence made of steel that never rusted. Evenly distributed along the fence were seven pointed pillars. Above the middle pillar there was a likeness of King Turgon set with diamonds.
