A silencer band is a device, worn on the head, that soaks up telepathic energy, preventing a Tomorrow Person from using their abilities. Removing a band is highly dangerous, as the release of energy involved is enough to kill the wearer. In the Original Series episode "The Slaves of Jedikiah", John and Carol were able to remove a silencer band from Stephen by touching the band at exactly the same time, drawing off enough energy to allow it to be removed.
