The Fell Winter of the Third Age was an extremely long lasting winter (2911-2912 TA). Food was short so the Shire was raided by white wolves (and possibly some wild wargs). Gandalf and the Rangers of the North helped supply food for the Shire. The Rangers, Gandalf, and Shirefolk all participated in warding off the dangers and defeating the many wolves that came into their borders.
