Peel used to travel regularly to Cambridge once a week for his BBC Radio Cambridgeshire shows between 1988 and 1990, his shows broadcast on Sundays were also transmitted to neighbouring BBC local radio stations as well. He also mentioned on his 18 October 1989 show that he interviewed indie band The Charlottes on his BBC Radio Cambridgeshire show. In 1990, Peel decided to stop doing shows for the station after admitting on Suffolk Comfort that he felt he was like an absentee father, not seeing enough of his children, because of other radio commitments and the worry that he was over working.
