On the eve of the Military Creation Act vote, Senator Padme Amidala's starship was attacked upon arriving at Coruscant by a bomb planted by Zam Wesell. Seven people, including Amidala's decoy, Corde, died in the explosion. Though some believed that disgruntled spice miners from the moons of Naboo were the culprits, Amidala actually believed that Count Dooku, leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, was behind the attack. In truth, it was an old enemy, Nute Gunray, the Viceroy of the Trade Federation, who had hired bounty hunters to finally silence Amidala.
