In the Tanakh, Obed (Hebrew: עובד,Oved) was a son of Boaz and Ruth , the father of Jesse, and the grandfather of David. In the Christian Scriptures, He is one of Jesus' ancestors through the aforementioned genealogy found in the gospels. The name Obed is cognate with Arabic "Abd", meaning "servant, worshipper".
