The three prevailing image use policies are that (1.) copyrighted material should not be used, (2.) that images should only be used when absolutely necessary to enhance the article and (3.) that when used, images should be cropped to display the minimum amount of the original image required by the aforementioned necessity—including the removal of any watermarks or unnecessary text or captions. Captions for the images should instead be used in a caption box accompanying the thumbnail and any copyright material should be displayed nstead on the image description page.
