The Kessel Asteroid field was formed by the remains of the Kessel Garrison moon after the moon was destroyed by the Death Star prototype during Death Star field testing. A rare form of glitterstim red spice was discovered in the asteroid field a short time later. The Kessel Asteroid field mining stations are currently under the protection of the Black Sun Syndicate.
