The Palais Garnier, also known as the Opéra Garnier, is the largest theatre in Paris and the home of the Paris Opera and the Opera Ballet. It was designed by Charles Garnier under the direction of Emperor Napoleon III and Baron Haussmann as part of their grand reconstruction plans for the city, and opened in 1875.
