The Union of the Russian People (Russian: Союз Русского Народа, romanized Soiuz russkogo naroda) was a Black-Hundredist counter-revolutionary, nationalist, monarchist and antisemitic political organization in the Russian Empire. It was formed in October 1905 in St. Petersburg. In 1908 the clergy belonging to the Union petitioned for a right to carry firearms, but the petition was denied. The Union actively campaigned against Ukrainian self-determination, as well as against promoting of Ukrainian culture in general, and against the cult of the great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko in particular.
