Prior to the battle, the Taungs had been engaged in a limited offensive on the Sravs, striking at places such as Sevastopolitan and Volgis, and even launching an unsuccessful raid on the Srav capital of Sviat. However, the Sravs had performed counter-offensives on locations such as Arca, and now under the direction of Srav intelligence controller Volita Taika they had captured many Taung spies, and gleaned the location of their homeworld from them. With the Sravs already overstretched combating the Necasian Military and Death's Tongue Militia, Srav supreme leader Jasef Yuiln resolved to end the Taungs once and for all, and dispatched top Srav commander Ivran Gresev to lay waste to Dxun.
