Isawa Hidetsugu was a shugenja of the Phoenix Clan who was determined that he would uncover the Asako's secrets that they did not share with the Isawa. Seizing Isawa's Last Wish in the year 234 he attempted to use it to unraveil the Asako Henshin's secret. When he did so, Gisei Toshi erupted into flame, and Hidetsugu was consumed by the Wish's power. The Isawa told the Empire that Gisei Toshi had been destroyed to cover the catastrophe.
