Mother Teresa was a Catholic nun who worked to help poor children mainly in Calcutta, but also around the world. The game name and thesis is a spoof on Mixed-Up Mother Goose, a simplistic early children's game made by Sierra. It was also referenced in a death in Space Quest 5 (which suggested the current game was too hard for them and to give Mother Goose a try).
