The L-4 maneuver was commonly referred to in Earth aerobatic maneuvers as an "inside loop", in which a starship pulled upward and moved in a complete circle along the z-axis, coming back to its original trajectory. In July 2153, Enterprise NX-01 used the L-4 maneuver inside the thermobaric clouds surrounding the Delphic Expanse to get behind Captain Duras' Klingon Bird-of-Prey, allowing Enterprise to destroy the Klingon vessel.
