Private investigators were individuals who basically did work-for-hire contract jobs for whomever could afford their prices. Work could include, but was not limited to bodyguarding, security, looking for lost items and individuals. Many who worked as P.I.'s often had a previous career in law enforcement, the military, or some kind of related security work.
