Ever since, a person who cannot walk on his own power is said be disabled and the stick such a person uses to walk is called a cane. But the cane can also be used by a healthy person in order to make him appear physically disabled. The person who uses a cane is normally healthy, able-bodied, and has no need for such a device. But by using one, s/he is able to give others the impression s/he is disabled, thereby obtaining all the benefits available to a disabled person.
