Curzio Inghirami was an Italian nobleman from Tuscany. He gained fame at the age of 19 for fabricating and "discovering" Etruscan artifacts, which he called "scariths" in November 1634. He dedicated much of his life to this fabrications. Despite obvious inconsistencies in the language used (many scariths used Latin vocabulary but made Tuscan references) However, his big mistake was that he had his Etruscan write on rag paper rather than on linen cloth (one even had a Tuscan watermark). Despite these many questions, Inghirami defended his works, and continued to produce them for fifteen years. There are those who argue to this day that Inghirami was not the responsible party, but that he was also a victim.
