Barbara Hicks appeared in the "Man's Best Friend" episode of the Coronation Street spin-off Pardon the Expression in May 1966. Born on 12th August 1924 in Wolverhampton, Ms Hicks trained at the Webber Douglas School before commencing a distinguished film, stage and television career. Among her credits are The Charge of the Light Brigade, Britannia Hospital and Howard's End while on the small screen she appeared in many literary adaptations including a 1960 Granada Television production of H.G. Wells' Kipps which finished transmission on Friday 2nd December and was replaced the following week in its timeslot by the first episode of Coronation Street and which was also directed by Stuart Latham, the programme's first producer.
