The "Ladder" was the name given to a fictional drug that was supposedly given to a group of soldiers in the film "Jacob's Ladder" as part of a military experiment in the Vietnam war, it was said to play on people's aggression and was named after the fact it caused people's aggression to reach a "primal level".
