Squat Theatre is a theatre group who moved to New York City in 1978. Squat Theatre was founded by artists, writers, designers, musicians in Budapest, Hungary in the late 1960s. They were known as Kassak Studio, and later, during their underground years in Budapest as "apartment theatre". Members of the group were expelled from Hungary in the early 1970's for their radical aesthetical views. After spending a year and working in Europe they moved to the U.S. in 1977.
