Ensign Boyer was a Starfleet officer who served on space station Deep Space 9 in 2369. It was suggested by Miles O'Brien that Boyer was just as capable a runabout pilot as he was. O'Brien hoped the ensign could substitute for him on a medical emergency mission to Bajor, to avoid spending time with Doctor Julian Bashir.
