Norris Cole had stayed faithfully by her bedside since she had been brought in and, after a night asleep in a chair with a blanket over him, the nurse woke him gently and told him where he could find washing facilities. She also comforted him when he asked if Emily would ever wake up, wanting reassurance that if she did, he would be fetched immediately.
