Turntables can be found all over the Island of Sodor. They help engines and rolling stock in turning around in the opposite direction, the same way they came or another direction. They are primarily used by tender engines so that they can turn around the right direction of their train, as reversing at a high speed is dangerous for them. Tank engines, however, aren't required to use them as they have no trouble reversing at any rate at all.
