Maser worked as secretary for costume designer Jocelyn Rickards in the early 1980s, including work on films such as the comedy Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen (1981). She then worked as costumer herself on episodes of Brothers (1986) and CBS Summer Playhouse (1988), the crime drama Black Rain (1989), the drama Always (1989), the science fiction horror film Arachnophobia (1990, with David S. Powell), and the comedy Dutch (1991).
