Quentin Swofford was a Starfleet captain and a friend of Benjamin Sisko. Sisko had introduced Swofford to his wife. In 2374, Captain Swofford was killed when his ship, the USS Cortez, was destroyed while on patrol near the Cardassian border, likely by the Jem'Hadar. After Joseph Sisko heard of Swofford's loss and that Benjamin Sisko was considering resigning from Starfleet, Joseph commented that Swofford would have something to say about Sisko's decision.
