The Nauvoo Expositor was a short-lived newspaper published in Nauvoo during 1844. The newspaper was published by apostates determined to destroy The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Joseph Smith. During the spring of 1844, apostates and a few disgruntled members banded together to form a dissenting church. They claimed belief in the Book of Mormon and the restoration of the gospel, but rejected what they saw as "Nauvoo innovations," including plural marriage. They claimed that Joseph was a fallen prophet, and planned to use the Nauvoo Expositor as a vehicle to inform others of his supposed false teachings and abominations. They held secret meetings, made plans, and took oaths to topple the Church and kill Joseph Smith.
