Rodney Stephen "Rod" Steiger (April 14, 1925 – July 9, 2002) was an American actor. He appeared as Captain Tenille in "Simpson Tide". In a long film career, Steiger starred in numerous films including On the Waterfront (1954), The Harder They Fall (1956), The Pawnbroker (1965), Doctor Zhivago (1965), In the Heat of the Night (1967), Waterloo (1970), and Mars Attacks! (1996). Steiger won the Academy Award for Best Actor for In the Heat of the Night.
