Syral Saganu was a female Chiss officer of the Confederacy of Independent Systems navy and later of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Hailing from a family of Chiss exiles in the Outer Rim Territories, Saganu was trained in different styles of combat in her youth, becoming a skilled combatant. However, she was later captured and forced into serving a group of pirates, becoming a member of their crew. The event she witnessed and took part in horrified Saganu, and scarred her for life. During a raid against a Trade Federation "freighter", she was captured, along with the rest of the pirates.
