Dragon Quest IX was originally an action adventure game but beta testers didn't like the idea so it was changed to an RPG style game. This was most likely the cause for a few delays in the final product because a picture could be found of a hero entering a town that looks similar to Wormwood Creek. The king of Stornway can also be seen in a different looking castle. A few early concepts of the game can be seen here. There were also several character options cut for reasons unknown such as a haircut resembling that of Vegeta's from Dragon Ball Z.
