The Book of Amakira was a piece of literature known to the Bajoran civilization. It consisted of seventy seven prayers and was part of a test for young members of the holy orders. Each prayer comrpised of sixteen syllables which meant it took quite some time to pass through the entire book. This did not include the requirement of comprehending the meaning of each verse. A young Sister Winn Adami used to read the Book of Amakira which she used to keep herself awake as well as helped comfort her during the Occupation of Bajor. (DS9 novel: The Courageous)
