Ajangi orders his two chieftains, Krato and Beeya, to take Belit back to Abombi, and dismisses any possibility of Conan having survived his fall from the cliffs. However, the jungle canopy broke Conan's fall, and though bruised, he is alive...at least until he sees a hulking black lion approach. Luckily, he has encountered the lion, Sholo, before, and the beast recognizes Conan as his master Amra. Meanwhile, Belit is thrown into a dungeon with other concubines, but not before she notices how uncomfortable Krato and Beeya are with Ajangi's claims of divinity. Back in the jungle, Conan and Sholo encounter a symbol scratched into the ground in front of a cave, one that Sholo refuses to walk past.
