The Hwarang, or "Flower Knights", were an elite group of young men in Silla, an ancient Korean kingdom that lasted until the 10th century. In the later 6th and 7th centuries they were trained in horsemanship, swordsmanship, archery, javelin and stone throwing, polo, and ladder-climbing.
