Forest gardening (also known as 3-Dimensional Gardening) is a food production and land management system based on replicating woodland edge ecosystems, containing 7 layers: canopy trees (such as fruit or nut trees), vines, dwarf trees, bushes/shrubs, herb (herbs, vegetables, edible flowers), goundcover (strawberry), root crop, mushroom, beehive and possible other animals such a pond with fish. which have yields directly useful to humankind. There has been some criticism as to whether the home gardens system developed in the tropics are a suitable design for use in a temperate climate.
