For some time, a man by the name of Kors had been reading up on the entity known as the Phoenix Force. He learned that it was possible to summon and control the Phoenix Force through a number of different mystical items that had been scattered throughout earth. The Chrell had created the items in order to stop Jean Grey and when the Chrell had been defeated, the items themselves had been deemed too dangerous to be allowed to survive the war. Attempts to destroy them had been made, but unfortunately, they had proven to be unsuccessful. In the end, it was decided that the items would be scattered to the far reaches of the earth, in the hopes that this would keep them, and their powers' safe.
