The meaning is vague and unclear but the most common theory is that the lyrics to tell the story of a girl who is neglected by not only her family but everyone around her and is treated like a worthless burden. Thus, she creates her own imaginary carnival at which she performs solo in sadistic acts. This song has entered the Hall of Fame.
