During the Invasion of Pain, Kakashi Hatake died due to using the last of his chakra to save Chōji Akimichi from a missile of the Asura Path. He woke up to see himself in a dark void with a man sitting beside a camp-fire. That man was revealed to be his own father, Sakumo Hatake, whom was disgraced for dying protecting his comrads instead of completing a mission. Lamenting on the fact that both died young, Sakumo was shocked to hear that Kakashi forgave him and thanked his son. A bright white light appeared and Sakumo told Kakashi that his time was not over in the living. After Kakashi left, Sakumo smiled and said he would finally be able to see his wife.
